Wellingtonians enjoyed Celebrate Somalia.Save Lives fundraising extravaganza this weekend, raising more than $1500 with donations still coming in – the equivalent to providing one day’s food for 750 children in Somalia. People who came along on election day were treated to traditional Somali live music and entertainment with delicious Somali lunch and snacks.
The fundraising event was initiated by local Somali people who teamed up with Volunteer Wellington and Unicef to organise the event to raise funds for people affected by the famine in Somalia. Young people volunteered to help with serving the food, distributing fliers, managing the raffle tables, greeting people and other tasks.
