The Westpac Porirua City 2009 recent Business Excellence Awards dinner was an elegant celebration of innovation and success. There were more than 600 nominations to the Awards with 32 finalists being chosen over 11 award categories. The Supreme Winner was chosen from amongst the category winners.

The Awards are designed to reward the companies and organizations that are making a successful contribution to the local economy. They recognize local business heroes giving them the opportunity to benchmark themselves against other successful businesses across all industry sectors. Volunteer Porirua along with two other organizations, Partners Porirua and Youth Horizons were the three finalists in the Not For Profit category. MC Swampy Marsh set the evening off to a flying start, followed by a few words of encouragement from Porirua Mayor Jenny Brash.

There was good food and refreshments and great ‘crooning performances ‘ by a girl’s Barbershop Quartet from Aotea College. After the Supreme Award was presented everyone danced to the sounds of a local band until the wee hours of the morning. Partners Porirua was the winner of the Not for Profit category award. Their remarkable efforts were noted, in facilitating partnership between businesses, the educational sector and other organizations and exciting youth about the working world. Volunteer Porirua are thrilled and privileged to be nominated and placed in the finals and are thankful for the support of the business community.

All in all it was an enjoyable and educational evening and our heartfelt thanks goes to Paul Hansen from BNZ Partners Porirua who very kindly presented Volunteer Porirua with two tickets, making it possible for Cynthia and myself (Olivia) to attend, representing the Porirua Branch Manager Lynne Harding. A huge thank you must also to Janet Carlyle at Porirua City Council’s Community Development for providing support to promote Volunteer Porirua in the Business Award section of the Porirua City Life News. Special thanks too, to the volunteers and sponsors who made it possible for this great event to take place.
