QR code – What’s that?

Designed originally for the motor industry, QR codes are now mainstream – leading the way grabbing attention and directing visitors to social media sites. The codes are called Quick Response (QR) as they contain a large amount of data that can be read quickly and hold alphanumeric and kanji as well as binary characters.

Scanning the square with your smartphone’s 2D barcode reader will convert the code into an URL and take you to the web or social media site. And the code on the flyer pictured above takes you to this very blog site!

Search for and download your ‘QR scanner’ in the appstore on your smartphone – it works on iPhone, Android, Blackberry and Nokia. Hop along to Volunteer Wellington pick up a flyer to try it out yourself!
