Kiwibank employee gardening for Village Green Charitable TrustVolunteer Wellington’s Nikau Foundation Corporate Challenge, held from February until June, is moving into its seventh year. The benefits of projects linking business teams with local communities are considerable. For example, when Kiwibank spent a day with Village Green Charitable Trust a new relationship was formed. Kiwi Bank employees got out of the office for a day to help Village Green transform the Philip Myers Park area in Wellington into a place where people can meet and hold events.

Connecting of business with community takes people out of the world of contracts and targeted profit margins, and into a new experience. There is no doubt about the new experiences – and new relationships – formed through Volunteer Wellington’s Employee Volunteering programme.

A rundown on recent projects being facilitated by Volunteer Wellington are Aviat Networks who are painting anti-graffiti paint over a mural at the Clubhouse in Naenae; Sentia Media working with MCLASS on language pratice with new migrants and people with refugee backgrounds; ANZ finishing off a Habitat for Humanity House in Ascot Park.
